A lie disrupts the soul, it fills us with dread.
One woke me up at night while I was in bed.
It spoke its soft voice inside my own mind,
But no peace did it offer or sleep could I find.
Laying wide wake through most of the night,
Full of expressions and phrases that didn’t seem right.
Life is too short, that’s it, that’s the one.
Life is too short – I don’t have time to make up for all that I’ve done.
See life is eternal, it’s not short and sweet.
So where will you end up once death has you beat?
The rich man like me, in Matthew Chapter 19.
Like the voices within us, lies left unseen.
He said Lord Jesus, I have this list and it’s all done.
So tell me, do tell me, surely I’ve won.
Jesus said even with that stash, your goal you will fail.
Give away all that stuff, accept no bill of sale.
You’re cleaned up and sharp, you sure act the part,
But what really matters is the condition of your heart.
Jesus saw deep inside, the emptiest of shells.
Greedy and self centered, the driest of wells.
You can never add up or even recoup the cost.
If salvation’s through man, you’re all surely lost.
The crowd began to muse, then how can it be?
That salvation is for any, let alone me?
Jesus told them the price, he alone could pay,
For He is the life, the truth, and the way.
Jesus paid it nailed on a cross, the prince among thieves.
His resurrection the victory to all who believes.
Admission, you see, it’s a double edged word.
Oh yes, you’re correct, it means I’m guilty as sin,
But it’s also the only word that will allow Him to come in.
I was dead deep inside, now living water flows like a spring.
The Spirit of Truth, my Advocate, a divine gift from my King.
His word I will treasure, though sharp as a knife,
My comfort in my suffering is this: your promise preserves my life.
